In 1974, the Minelli family opened South Side Bowl, which locals agree is Scranton, Pennsylvania’s home for family fun and entertainment.  South Side Bowl blends traditional entertainment, including 34 bowling lanes and a 14 table billiards room in addition to today’s most exciting and entertaining arcade games. Visitors of South Side Bowl have great fun, and many visit for great food and spirits at Scranton’s most famous watering hole:  Poor Richard’s Pub. 

Poor Richard’s Pub officially opened its doors on January 29, 1981.  Why was this name chosen?  The name of the establishment emerged from trips that the Minelli family took on Route 1 to Ogunquit, Maine.  On a trip to Ogunquit in the
early 1980s, the family Volvo stocked full of luggage, peanut butter sandwiches, and loving family members drove past Poor Richard’s restaurant.  Roy, the family patriarch saw the establishment, shared the namesake with his brother Mark, and soon after, Poor Richard’s Pub was born in Scranton!  The name fit well, as the Minelli family enjoyed naming the establishment as
a tribute to Benjamin Franklin, an American icon and author of “Poor Richard’s Almanac.”

Poor Richard’s Pub offers guests a warm atmosphere where the drinks are cold, the food is scrumptious, entertainment keeps toes tapping and time with friends is cherished.
